The Sig Sauer® Ballistics Data eXchange™ (BDX) Laser Range Finders (LRF) are embedded with Applied Ballistics® Ultralite™ Ballistics Engine, an Inclination Sensor and Bluetooth®. The Applied Ballistics Ultralite Engine is built into the devices giving a firing solution in the internal display. When paired with Sig Sauer BDX Scope it can give the firing solution in the reticle in the scope. Some BDX Devices feature AB External which can provide the range and inclination on multiple compatible devices such as the Garmin® Foretrex® 701 or Kestrel® Elite. The firing solution is then simultaneously displayed in the BDX Range Finder, BDX Scope, and the chosen external device. The Sig BDX rangefinders also feature Lightwave DSP™ + Hyperscan™, and are capable of returning a range reading in about 1/4 of a second or scanning at a rate of 4 times per second.

BDX Devices have the ability to feed live data to an Android or iPhone device via the included free BDX App. However once the profiles are loaded to the Range Finder, and Scope the phone is no longer needed to provide firing solutions. The Sig BDX Laser Range Finders do not require a connection to the app to provide ballistic solutions because the solutions are generated on the devices themselves. The app is only required for building and loading profiles on to the device. The Sig BDX LRFs operate completely on their own or when connected to the app. The choice is up to the operator.

Their are 4 modes that can be found on the BDX LRFs. AB Ultralite is available in all modes but some of the BDX Devices feature AB External Mode. AB External mode allows you to connect the BDX device to a compatible AB Elite Device (Garmin 701 or Kestrel Elite) and get firing solutions with no range limitation. The firing solution is then displayed inside the BDX Range Finder, On the Compatible Device, and inside the BDX Scope.

13. AMR Mode – Angle Modified Range (Inclination) can be turned on/off.
14. LOS Mode – Line Of Sight (No Inclination Calculation Adjustment).
15. Sensor Override ability – You can override the current sensor readings and input your own parameters such as Temp, Pressure, Direction of Fire etc.
16. Metric Support.
17. Adjustable Timeout – Adjust the timeout on the LRF from the app to 30(Default), 60, or 180 seconds.

When Operating in AB External Mode the following features apply:
1. AB Elite Engine – Capable of precision firing solutions beyond 5000 yards.

. Custom Drag Models – When using a BDX device with AB External Mode you have the ability to use Custom Drag Models (CDMs) in the devices. AB was the first to develop a publically available system/library with CDMs. More accurate than G1/G7 BCs.

3. Aerodynamic Jump, Spin Drift, & Coriolis Effect are all calculated in the system(Embedded sensors adjust for this in real time).
4. Muzzle Velocity Temp-Table – Ability to train for muzzle velocity shift with temperature shift.
5. Target Speed and Direction – Input via the app for calculation into firing solution.

FAQs

 

The answer is, this depends. Their are two modes for firing solutions. One is essentially point and shoot. Where you are using the range finder to laser a target and then produce the firing solution in the range finder as well as in the scope and maybe even on an external device. In this case no you do not need the app for anything more than updating environmental information (wind, temp etc.) or changing profiles. Once that data has been stored into the Range Finder you can leave the app behind as its not being used for calculating the solutions the actual device is doing that.

However their is an exception. If you are using the ballistic reticle feature then you will need the app to update the desired subtension settings in the scope.

Yes, the firing solution is displayed simultaneously in the Sig BDX Rangefinder, Sig BDX App, and the Sig BDX Scope once a target is ranged. Furthermore if you are using AB External mode the firing solution will be displayed on the External Device (Garmin Foretrex or Kestrel Elite) and inside the Range Finder at the same time.

Some of the Sig Sauer BDX Rangefinders feature a mode called AB External. Currently that is the 2400 BDX & 3000 BDX but more products will release in the future as well with this capability. If your BDX Rangefinder features AB External mode you can connect it to your Garmin Foretrex 701.

It is not possible to connect the BDX Devices to the AB Mobile App. The BDX family of products comes with its own app. They also feature onboard capability for calculating firing solutions. The devices themselves do not need the apps to calculate firing solutions. This is all done internally. We recommend using the BDXs navtive app found here: Sig BDX App.
